Bust of Nicolae Iorga
The bust of Nicolae Iorga, on Aviatorilor Boulevard in front of the history institute that bears the scholar's name, is the work of the sculptor Ion Irimescu. Made of bronze, on a stone pedestal, it was unveiled in 1976, 105 years after the historian's birth and 40 years after the institute was founded. Nicolae Iorga (1871–1940) was a historian, writer, professor, academician and prime minister; in November 1940 he was seized by the Legionnaires at his villa in Sinaia and assassinated.
