Pitar Moș Church
Pitar Moș Church, dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God, was built in 1795 by Prince Alexandru Moruzi, on the site of a wooden church known as Popa Ivașcu's, and painted in fresco. The name, attested since 1818, seems to come from the surrounding neighborhood, where an old (“moș”) Bulgarian gardener, Pedar, grew vegetables; he is said to have lived to over a hundred. It was repaired in 1898 and consolidated after the 1940 earthquake, and in 1966 it was reconsecrated by Patriarch Justinian. Its courtyard connects Pitar Moș and Dionisie Lupu streets.
