St. Nicholas-Șelari Church
The church is mentioned as early as 1677, when the surrounding neighborhood bore the name Sf. Nicolae-Șelari; the guild of leather craftsmen looked after it and had St. Nicholas as its patron. In 1700 the cupbearer Șerban Cantacuzino rebuilt it in stone, but the 1802 earthquake left it in ruins. From 1820 it housed the first printing press for church music in the Orthodox world, where Anton Pann also worked. The current building was erected in 1867–1868 through a public subscription, with a donation of 10,000 galbeni (gold coins) from Carol I, and painted by Gheorghe Tattarescu.
