Church of the Greeks – Ghiorma Banul (lost)

On the site now bounded by Lipscani, Smârdan, Stavropoleos and Poștei streets stood the Ghiorma Banul church, also known as the Greci (Greeks') Church, probably built around 1564–1565. At the beginning of the 18th century, the Greci Inn was gradually built around it, one of Bucharest's great inns with a church in the middle of the courtyard. Having fallen into an advanced state of decay because of poor management and calamities, the church and the inn were torn down in the second half of the 19th century. Excavations in 2007 uncovered walls of the inn and more than 58 graves from the church's cemetery.
