Monument to the Heroes of 1916–1918 (Silvestru)
The Monument to the Heroes of 1916–1918, on Silvestru Street, next to St. Sylvester Church, is the work of the sculptor Vasile Ionescu-Varo and was inaugurated in 1923. On a stone-clad pedestal, decorated with a laurel wreath, bronze urns and a bas-relief of a World War I battle, rises a 2.20 m bronze statuary group: a woman in national costume, holding a flag and symbolizing the fatherland, beside a wounded soldier. The marble plaques bear the names of fallen heroes.
