Doamnei Church

Doamnei Church (the Lady's Church), at the corner of Calea Victoriei and Regina Elisabeta Boulevard, was founded by Lady Maria, wife of Șerban Cantacuzino, and completed in 1683. It is an important monument because it marks the transition from the architecture of Matei Basarab's era to the Brâncovenesc style: the porch rests on eight slender stone columns, and the entrance door, with an ogee arch, is richly carved. The facades are divided by a string course framed by bricks laid in a sawtooth pattern. Inside, the 17th-century murals by the painters Constantinos and Ioan are preserved.
