Greek Church

The Greek Church, dedicated to the Annunciation, was built between 1893 and 1900 by the Greek state, through its legation in Romania, next to today's Embassy of Greece on Pache Protopopescu Boulevard. The Neoclassical building, with columns recalling the monuments of Athens, has a typically Orthodox interior. It was canonically subordinate to the Ecumenical Patriarchate and had Greek priests; the last of them, Constantin Moraitakis, was expelled in 1948, and the church was closed. Services resumed only on 6 January 1966, after lengthy negotiations between Greece and Romania.
