Manea Brutaru Church

The church was built in 1787 by Manea Brutaru, head of the bakers' guild, on the site of a small wooden church of the Popa Radu parish. In 1798 Prince Constantin Hangerli had buildings for 80 orphans set up in its courtyard, where a school later also operated. The 1838 earthquake brought down its tower, and during the 1858 repairs the enclosed porch and the choir gallery were added. The triconch plan and the facades with Brâncovenesc echoes follow the type of 18th-century Wallachian churches; the interior has oil paintings, with a starry sky on the vaults.
