Popa Nan Church

The first church on this site, small and with a single tower, was built in 1719; a second one, of masonry, probably dates from 1764–1765. Repaired several times in the 19th century, it had become a ruin and collapsed one night in July 1910. The present church, dedicated to Saints Constantine and Helen, was built from the ground up between 1910 and 1918 to plans by the architect Cristofi Cerchez, and the interior painting dates from 1918–1920. The 1977 earthquake brought down the tower over the nave; after repairs and repainting, the church was reconsecrated in October 1989 by Patriarch Teoctist.
