Verzișori Housing Estate

The Verzișori housing estate, initially known as the Tanners' Quarter (Cartierul Tăbăcarilor), was built between 1923 and 1927 by the Municipal Society for Low-Cost Housing, on the bank of the Dâmbovița, south of today's Piața Unirii. The layout was drawn up by Fr. Reiss, and the houses, in the national style, with loggias on wooden posts and arched windows, were designed by Dimitrie Mohor. Although they were intended for tanners, the houses were sold at auction to civil servants, doctors, engineers and teachers. The main streets bear the names of the actors Petre Liciu and Aristizza Romanescu.
