St. Eleutherius Old Church
The church was built between 1743 and 1744, during the reign of Mihai Racoviță, from the fortune left by Master Constantin, son of Macsin the merchant, through the care of Metropolitan Neofit and of Master Andrei the money-changer, the founder's uncle, who remained as trustee. The inscription, dated May 1744, shows that the church is dedicated to the Holy Great Martyr George and the Holy Hieromartyr Eleutherius. The church was declared a historic monument as early as 1915. In the interwar period a larger church, St. Eleutherius New, was begun nearby, hence the name “Old” for the 18th-century one.
