Zodiac Fountain

The Zodiac Fountain, at the main entrance to Carol I Park, was designed by the architect Octav Doicescu: a large circular basin from the middle of which rises a stone bowl. The black mosaics on a gray background, with the signs of the zodiac, were made in the Art Deco style by the sculptor Mac Constantinescu, and the work was carried out by the architect August Schmiedigen and by Dorin Pavel. King Carol II inaugurated it in 1935, during the “Bucharest Month” (Luna Bucureștilor) festivities, when the square was still called Mareșal Joffre.
