The Giants Statues

The Giants statues, on the main alley of Carol I Park, come from the “Enchanted Grotto”, an ensemble created for the 1906 Romanian General Exhibition, held on Câmpia Filaretului. The work, part of the architect Remus Iliescu's project, was conceived by the sculptor Dimitrie Paciurea, inspired by Carmen Sylva's “Legend of the Jepi”: two straining men, called Giants, and a reclining nude woman. One giant was sculpted by Frederic Storck, the other by Paciurea. The grotto no longer exists; the giants now flank the alley, and the woman was moved to Herăstrău Park.
