Statue of Constantin I. Istrati

The bronze statue of Doctor Constantin I. Istrati, university professor, member of the Romanian Academy, minister and mayor of the capital, was made by Oscar Späthe and unveiled in Carol I Park, in front of the Industry Pavilion, on 4 November 1928. The site was chosen because Istrati, as commissioner general, had directed the laying out of the park, inaugurated in 1906. The statue shows him as a professor giving a lecture, and the bas-relief on the pedestal shows him in the laboratory. Moved near the Roman Arenas after the pavilion was demolished (1961–1963), it was put back in 2009 on a copy of the original pedestal, near the entrance on the Zodiac Fountain side.
