Air Monument (Piața Quito)
The monument in Piața Quito, the work of the sculptor Emil Ludovic Gové, was made between 1930 and 1935 and installed in 1937 by the Royal Aero Club of Romania. It is dedicated to Captain Mircea Zorileanu (1883–1919), a pioneer of Romanian aviation and a hero of World War I, whose urn is kept in the monument. A gilded bronze globe, with the signs of the zodiac on its equator, rests on the wings of four eagles holding the flag in their talons, and the stone pillars bear allegorical reliefs dedicated to the pioneers of aviation.
