Synagogue or mosque · 1849–1850; remodelat 1910

Unirea Sfântă Temple

The synagogue of the Jewish tailors' guild, attested by a statute from 1836, was rebuilt in 1849–1850 in the Mămulari cul-de-sac and remodeled in 1910 to a design by H. B. Iancovici and Iulius Gruenfeld. The building combines Moorish, Romanesque and Byzantine elements, with a raised central nave and walls supported by buttresses. Ransacked by the Legionnaires in January 1941 and restored in 1945, it escaped the demolitions that wiped out most of Bucharest's synagogues. Since 1978 it has housed the Museum of the History of the Jews in Romania, reopened in 2019 under the name “Dr. Nicolae Cajal”.
