Udricani Church

Udricani Church, dedicated to St. Nicholas, was built in 1735 by Master Udrecan the clucer (court steward), as the inscription shows. A Romanian school and an almshouse operated alongside it, and Ienăchiță Văcărescu and Anton Pann are mentioned among those who studied here. Damaged by earthquakes and burned in the Great Fire of 1847, it was rebuilt in 1848, when the masonry towers were replaced with wooden ones. In the 1980s it was threatened with demolition, and the surrounding buildings, many of them belonging to the Jewish community, were torn down for the Civic Center.
