Basilescu Church
The church was founded by Nicolae S. Basilescu and his first wife, Ecaterina Pascal, on the Măicănești-Grefoaicele estate, to a design by the architect George Mandrea; completed in 1908, it was painted by the Danish painter Age Exner. Also intended as a burial place, until 1922 it served only as the family mausoleum, then became a chapel and, from 1947, a parish church. Damaged by the 1940 earthquake and by the American bombing of the Bucureștii Noi district, it was restored in 1945, when Vasile Blendea redid the murals and Traian Pârvu made the stained-glass windows.
