Schitu Măgureanu Church

Schitu Măgureanu Church, near Cișmigiu, continues a skete attested in the second half of the 17th century as a modest wooden church. The masonry church, begun by the Văcărescu family, was completed in 1757 by Ilinca Văcărescu and her husband, the Grand Treasurer Mihail Cantacuzino-Măgureanu, from whom the name comes. In 1875 the skete passed under the city's administration and became a parish church, and the old building was demolished around 1880, despite protests from cultural figures such as Theodor Aman. The present church was built between 1881 and 1884 and painted by Gheorghe Ioanid.
