Crețulescu Palace
The palace was built at the beginning of the 20th century for Elena Kretzulescu, who had inherited from her father the land and houses near Cișmigiu; in 1902 she hired the architect Petre Antonescu, and construction took two years. The building, in the French Renaissance style with Baroque influences, had a greenhouse in the right wing and a monumental staircase leading down to the park laid out by its owner. In 1927 the City Hall bought the palace, which then housed the Museum of Religious Art; since 1972 it has been the seat of the UNESCO European Centre for Higher Education (CEPES).
