Church moved on rails · 1726; mutată în 1982

Schitul Maicilor Church (original site)

This point marks the original site of Schitul Maicilor Church, built in 1726 at the foot of Dealul Spirii, in the middle of a small monastic ensemble. In 1982, when the cells and workshops of the Biblical Institute were demolished for the House of the People, only the church was saved: the building, weighing about 745 tons, was moved on rollers some 245 meters to the east, in 72 hours. It was the first church in Bucharest to be translocated, ahead of other churches moved out of the way of the Civic Center. Today it stands squeezed between buildings on Antim Ivireanul Street.
