St. George New Church

Constantin Brâncoveanu's last known foundation was built in 1705–1707 on the site of an older church, at the heart of a large complex with an inn and monastic cells dedicated to the Patriarchate of Jerusalem. It was painted by Pârvu Mutu, and the consecration in 1707 was attended by the prince, the court and numerous hierarchs, led by Patriarch Chrysanthos. Brâncoveanu is buried here. The 1802 earthquake brought down its vaults and towers, which were later rebuilt, and the inn disappeared in 1847. The church keeps part of the right hand of St. Nicholas, a gift from the Basilica of Bari.
