She-Wolf Statue

The statue is a bronze copy of the “Capitoline Wolf”, the legendary she-wolf said to have suckled Romulus and Remus, given to Bucharest by the municipality of Rome in 1906, to mark 40 years of Carol I's reign and 1,800 years since the conquest of Dacia. First placed in Carol Park, it was moved in 1908 to Piața Sfântul Gheorghe, then to Dealul Mitropoliei (1931), Piața Dorobanți (1965) and Piața Romană (1997). Stolen several times, in part or in whole, it returned in 2010 to I.C. Brătianu Boulevard, close to where it had stood in 1908–1931.
