Statue of Constantin Brâncoveanu

The bronze statue of Prince Constantin Brâncoveanu, by Oscar Han, stands in the courtyard of St. George New Church, where the prince is buried. It was commissioned in 1938 at the initiative of mayor Iulian Peter, and because of a superstition of King Carol II it was not unveiled according to custom but merely inaugurated in 1939, together with the 1848 Boulevard (today I.C. Brătianu). Larger than life, the figure shows Brâncoveanu as a young man, in princely robes and wearing a fur cap (ișlic) adorned with aigrettes.
