St. Stephen “Cuibul cu Barză” Church

The church was built around 1760 by the clucer Dona and his wife Zamfira, dedicated to St. Stephen the Archdeacon. After repairs in 1853 and 1877, it was extensively renovated in 1898 under the direction of the architect T. Dobrescu, who added a porch with three ogee arches, and the priest-painter Vasile Damian painted it in the Neo-Byzantine style. Strengthened after the 1977 earthquake, it was then proposed for demolition; on 22 February 1987, engineer Eugeniu Iordăchescu's team moved it on rollers to the south, into the courtyard of an apartment block on Știrbei Vodă. It was reconsecrated in 1990.
