Bărbătescu Vechi Church
Bărbătescu Vechi Church, in the Rahova district, originated in a small wooden skete built in 1763–1764 by Metropolitan Grigorie II on the estate of the Bărbătescu family, which also gave it its name. The first masonry church was completed in 1818; having fallen into ruin, it was rebuilt in 1851–1858 by Dimitrie Giano and other residents, and in 1926 it was enlarged and given towers. Its main dedication is to St. Nicholas the Hierarch. In 2011 the foundation stone of a new parish church was laid, and the old church was closed after an expert assessment found cracks in its walls and towers.
