Monument to the Infantryman
The bronze statue of a Romanian infantryman on the attack, ready to strike with the butt of his rifle, was made by Spiridon Georgescu based on his work “Avântul” (“The Charge”), exhibited in 1919. The monument was erected at the initiative of General Gabriel Marinescu, with money collected from his own pay and that of the soldiers of the 9th Vânători Regiment, in memory of the heroes who fell at Bazargic, Amzacea, Letca Nouă and Mărășești. Cast at the V.V. Rășcanu foundry, it was unveiled on 22 May 1931, in the presence of King Carol II, in the square next to the Cotroceni Bridge.
