Water mill
Vlalichii Mills
A group of water mills on the Dâmbovița, marked on an old map of Bucharest in the west of the city, around today's Cotroceni bridge; the origin of the name “Vlalichii” could not be established. Water mills, owned by the princely court, by monasteries or by boyars, operated on the Dâmbovița for centuries, but they narrowed the riverbed and increased the risk of flooding; after 1850 they were gradually replaced by steam mills and disappeared from the city.
